INTRODUCTION
The creation of the European Union (EU) has provided many countries within the Union the opportunity to develop their infrastructure with the assistance of EU funds. This infusion of resources has created much growth of the construction industry in Greece. Numerous new projects are under construction including an expanded Metro system, the Spata Airport, several power projects, sewage treatment plants, hazardous waste treatment facilities, bridges, hospitals and a National Library.
As the opportunities increase, more foreign companies are entering into contracts for construction projects in Greece. Typically, the applicable law for such contracts is Greek law as set forth in the Greek Civil Code (GCC). In addition to the GCC, certain construction contracts may also be governed by the Public Works Act ( PWA). A fundamental understanding of these laws and their implementation is essential for managing a contract subject to adjudication under Greek law[...]
